Good morning everyone! Welcome to this month’s Fun Folds Blog Hop for Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators! We’ve got a talented line-up and…I think you’re going to like what you see! This is a once-a-month hop and…all our cards will be fun folds!! How cool is that?!?
I had an idea in my head for making a faux side step card with a popping up television using the new Tune In bundle. But – then when I went to ACTUALLY make it – the tv just wouldn’t…pop up. So…I engineered for a minute and came up with a faux side-step EASEL card. Pop-up tv and all. Take a look-see:
It started with a regular faux side step main card base. I took a 5 1/2″ x 8″ piece of Pecan Pie cardstock and used my Simply Scored Scoring Tool to score on the long side at 3″, 6″ and 7″. I folded them as a mountain – a valley – a mountain.
I matted a piece of Peach Pie DSP from the 2024-2026 In Color 6″ x 6″ DSP on Wild Wheat and adhered it to the middle panel of the card base. I did the same with a narrower piece – different pattern, but still Peach Pie – on the narrow front panel.
The side step easel is a piece of Pecan Pie cardstock cut at 4 1/8″ x 8″ – scored at 1 3/4″, 6″ and 7″ – and folded the same as the card base.
I cut two more pieces of Peach Pie 2024-2026 In Color DSP and adhered them, with Liquid Glue, at a jaunty angle on the large front panel of the side-step easel.
I matted a final narrow piece of DSP on Wild Wheat and adhered it to the narrow front panel of the side-step card.
Using Liquid Glue – I adhered the side step card to the narrow front panel of the main card base. You can see in the picture above that that left me an easel to decorate!
Then I closed the card base and used more Liquid Glue to adhere the smaller portion of the panel to the back of the main card base – thus creating the side-step easel.
And now for the fun part!
Using the dies in the Tune In bundle, I cut out two televisions from some Wild Wheat paper in the Thoughtful Journey 6″ x 6″ DSP (I really leaned into the 60’s-70’s vibe of this set – I think we had Wild Wheat appliances!!). I used the screen die to cut the middle out of one of the die cut pieces.
I used a little Liquid Glue to adhere a small piece of Basic White cardstock to the back of the die cut with the hole in it – as the screen. Then, using Liquid Glue – I adhered the two televisions together. Why? The back of the tv is visible to the recipient and I wanted it to look pretty!
I used the die in the set to cut out DSP stripes – remember those when the tv went “off air”?? – one from each of the new In Colors – and adhered them to the screen with Liquid Glue.
There’s also a cool die that cuts the “grill” and the knobs – I used those to cut from some coppery Textured Metallic Specialty Paper. I adhered the grill with Liquid Glue and the knobs with little pieces of Dimensional.
With the sparkle dies – there are two of them in the set – I cut out some dark silver Textured Metallic Specialty Paper sparkles. I also cut a few Basic White…starbursts?
I adhered some of the die cut sparkles to the television screen with Liquid Glue.
On a piece of Basic White, I stamped the “NEWS FLASH” sentiment in Peach Pie and cut it out with my Paper Snips, then adhered it with Liquid Glue.
I popped the last small sparkle on with a little piece of Stampin’ Dimensional. Then I closed the card up and used Liquid Glue to adhere the die cut tv to the front of the side step card.
On a final piece of Peach Pie 2024-2026 In Color DSP, I stamped the Tune In sentiment in Pecan Pie ink and cut it out with the second-from-largest Stylish Shapes circle die.
I adhered the sentiment to the card front – you can see that I let it hang off the side step (but NOT past the edge of the main card base!) – with Liquid Glue.
Then I added the rest of the sparkles and starbursts with Liquid Glue and the card front was done!
For the back, I stamped a second Tune In sentiment in Pecan Pie ink on a piece of Basic White cardstock. I stamped the little squares image from the set a few times in Peach Pie.
I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Wild Wheat mat and then onto the back of the card base and the card was done!
My Basic White Medium Envelope got the Peach Pie squares image stamped a few times on the front…
…and more of the Thoughtful Journey 6″ x 6″ DSP on the envelope flap.
Et Voila! As my friend Tara would say…GROOVY, baby!! Well – SHE might not say “baby” but…it always gets added in my head (thanks, Austin Powers!). I was drawn to the Tune In bundle right away when I saw it – it reminded me of a time when I WAS the remote. And the excitement of that first COLOR tv! I think this faux side-step easel is a totally…GROOVY way to showcase this fun bundle!
I hope you like!
